I have a strange relationship with Janeane Garofalo. I was a huge fan of her very early standup, she has become a genuinely good actor, and The Matchmaker is my favorite romantic comedy ever. But personally I have never agreed with her extreme politics, or the way in which she attempts to create social change (unlike fellow comedian Al Franken).
News has been circulating that she has been cast in the coming season of 24 as a regular.
Although details of the casting are few and far between at this point, what I can tell you is this: 1) Come fall, she'll be a regular, 2) her character is a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and Co. in the upcoming season, and 3) since the comedienne's persona often brings to mind Mary Lynn Rajskub's prickly Chloe, the potential for on-screen fireworks is greater than it has been during any of the show's previous bomb threats.
I've never watched 24. When it first started, I already had too much television on my plate. I've always planned on getting the DVD set of each season and watching them as straight through as possible. But, in light of this casting news, I plan on watching 24 this season.
